About Lakes Audio
Lakes Audio founder Martin hails from the UK. A keen drummer, Martin spent his formative years touring extensively and gaining a degree in music - a program which encompassed music production and live sound. Fast forward to 2014 and Martin found himself in Queenstown where he fell in love with both the area and the thriving music scene. It was whilst playing certain events, weddings and corporates he noticed that sometimes the audio quality wasn’t quite what he was used to when compared with the UK touring circuit.
Whilst setting up his drum kit at a wedding he was due to perform, Martin had a ‘light bulb’ moment. During the speeches the microphone was cutting in and out and the sound quality was poor. Having engineered multiple events in the past, he realised he could deliver a superior sound and eliminate many of the issues they were experiencing with a few tweaks and with some equipment recommendations. The seeds of Lakes Audio were planted.
Using his background in live music, Martin began expanding his equipment collection to include professional PA systems, microphones, lighting and backline. Over the years, Martin became a go- to for local musicians and event co-ordinators for the hire of everything audio. Following the effects of the pandemic, Martin decided it was time to turn his passion into a business. He began assembling a team knowledgable engineers and Lakes Audio was officially established in late 2021.
